Memorial Crash Lancaster ND-389 Merksplas

This memorial commemorates the crash of the Lancaster ND-389.

Text monument:

On his return flight from Aachen to home base Wyton in England, bomber Lancaster ND-389 was shot down by a German fighter plane on 11 April 1944.

All occupants lost their lives:
Pilot: officer Victor McConnel, 23 years.
On-board technician: Sergeant Terence Powel (age:?).
Radar operator: officer Alfred John Spencer Watts, 28 y.
Radio operator: Sergeant Walter Surgey, 23 years old.
Archer: Hammer Sergeant Gordon Bradshaw, 20 years.
Gunner: Sergeant William John Throsby (Age:?)
Bomb operator: Sergeant Harry Sidney Vickers, 21 y.

They gave their lives for our freedom.
