Text info board:
In Merksplas we annually commemorate the events of the First and Second World War, with special attention to the liberation and armistice. There is also a focus on reconciliation and the pursuit of a world full of tolerance and mutual understanding. This peace tree is a powerful symbol of both commemoration and the pursuit of reconciliation.
This peace tree was inaugurated on November 9, 2018 in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Armistice on November 11, 1918.
With the signing of the charter of the Agency for Nature and Forests, the municipality recognizes the peace tree as a living monument.
