German bunker 131 Stellung Antwerp-Turnhout WWI Oud-Turnhout

In Oud-Turnhout there are still two bunkers of the type II of the "Stellung Antwerpen-Turnhout" from the First World War.
This bunker position started east of the Fort van Schoten and lay on both sides of the Dessel-Schoten Canal and ended at Oude Kom at bridge 1 in Turnhout. At this point it leaves the canal and defends the main access roads to Turnhout and the intervals. The bunkers form a half circle around Turnhout that ends at the priory of Corsendonk in Oud-Turnhout.
Of the three bunkers that used to be in Oud-Turnhout, only two remain.

Bunkers 129 and 131 still exist. These bunkers already serve personnel space and storage for an open M.I.-position (buried heavy machine guns in the open air). The Germans started in November 1916 with the construction of the barrier and the bunkers. The model here is made of reinforced concrete and measures 5 by 5.8 meters.
After it was completed in the summer of 1917, the position is only monitored, but not manned.
On November 4, 1918, it was ordered to occupy the position, which was never carried out due to the armistice.
