On November 11, 2018, the artwork for peace "Hand of Hope" was erected in the context of "100 years Great War".
The modern monument is a design by Johnny De Brabanter and a realization by Patrick Van Craenenbroeck.
The monument is full of symbolism that refers to the war victims of the First World War. A striking feature of the artwork is that it contains authentic elements that were used during the First World War.
The artwork is a reference to an exploded shell, from which a Hand of Hope symbolically shoots.
There is a poem on the tree trunk:
"Hand of Hope
Hand of father or son
generation without pedigree
Hand of mother or child
love so mutilated.
Hand from South or North
inhumane mud death
Hand from East or West
respect for what is left of us.
Hand from me to you cleans every morning dew
in Flemish Fields with pointless heroes
between long lines from today where I walk with you now
the poppy-of-peace to Never Again War
as a hand of hope "
