Monument to the Heroes of the County

Tribute "to the heroism of the children of the province of Namur who died for the fatherland and a symbol of eternal gratitude for their glorious sacrifice".
The monument consists of a group of statues with a winged figure, symbol of victory. In the front a woman lying down with a child against her chest, soldiers and horsemen attack the enemy on both sides of the obelisk.

At the front of the plinth:
1914 - 1918
1940 - 1945
May their sacrifice
not be wasted "

At the back of the monument:
"Transferred by the province to the city of Namur
on June 15, 1924 in the presence of our princes "

On the side of the plinth on the left
"Salus patriae suprema lex"
(The salvation of the homeland is the supreme law)

Below the text in Dutch and French:
"2500 West Flemish Fire Crossers
invited by their Namur
brothers in arms swore here
eternally faithful to the memory of
their dead companions and to the
one and indivisible homeland
June 4th, 1939 "
