Dutch War Graves Tholen

The Municipal Cemetery in Tholen contains two Dutch war graves from the Second World War.

Andries Bogert (born May 24, 1905 - died May 13, 1940)
He was a conscript soldier with the 1st Dep Cie Pont of the Royal Netherlands Army when he died around two o'clock in the afternoon in Dordrecht on the Oranje Vrijstaatplein.

Willem Abraham Bierens (born January 10, 1915 - died June 1, 1940)
Ensign Bierens was seriously injured in the May days of 1940 during a tank attack on the Zeedijk. He eventually died in hospital in Rotterdam from the injuries he sustained during the attack on June 1, 1940. He was an ensign in a cycling regiment. His grave has number 91 and is opposite the old entrance. When you enter through the new entrance you have to turn right to the oldest part of the cemetery. You will then find the tomb all the way to the iron entrance gate.

There is also a reminder column for:
Simon Leendert van Luijk (born July 16, 1917 - died October 29, 1944)
On October 27, 1944, the area around Goirle was liberated by the English. Simon decides to check on the planting in Hilvarenbeek. During his exploration, he steps on a land mine that was hidden under a wooden plank. His lower leg is crushed and he later dies of blood loss in a hospital in Tilburg. Simon was originally buried in the Vredehof cemetery in Tilburg, but that grave was cleared in the 1990s. The family later had this column placed in the cemetery of Tholen as a reminder of him. The column stands next to the grave of his wife, who later remarried his brother.
