Memorial Stone Offagne

Memorial stone for the 2 world wars.

At the top is a cross "Credo" (I believe)

Underneath 1914 - 1918 with a soldier's medallion between the years.
"Offagne to his brave
died in the field of honor "- 3 names
"Executed on August 24, 1914" - 9 names
"Veterans" - 14 names
"Deportees" - 9 names

At the bottom is a small plaque with the name of 1 person who went missing in a concentration camp in 1945.

The days of August 1914, the first month of the Great War, are etched in many memories because of the aggression towards civilians and (often alleged) spies and civilian militiamen.
In many Flemish and Walloon villages and cities, the Germans carry out reprisals against the civilian population. This is also the case in Offagne, where 13 civilians are murdered on 24 August.
