Text at the monument:
Jan Oude Voshaar, on December 15, 1944, at the age of 23, most likely shot by mistake. Jan went into hiding because he did not want to comply with the employment by the Germans, the so-called Arbeitseinsatz.
Three members of the Dutch Landwacht opened fire on him without any form of warning. The Landwacht was part of the German Waffen SS.
This fate is even more poignant when it appears that this may possibly involve a mistake of personality. The Landwachters thought that they were on the trail of the resistance fighter Jan Lesscher from Harbrinkhoek and not this innocent Jan Oude Voshaar. The mistake probably has to do with the fact that both Jan Lesscher and Jan Oude Voshaar were dressed in the same long blue raincoat at the time. This agreement was most likely fatal to him.
