Memorial Collision Halifax LV923 with Lancaster ND767

Memorial of the Allied airmen who fell in March 1944.
It stands at the crossroads of La Strale, Rue du Haut, Rue Basse, next to the old town hall.

The memorial pays tribute to the crew of a Halifax and a Lancaster who collided in flight on March 31, 1944. Both planes were on their way back from a mission to Nuremberg and landed in Rachecourt.
Only one Halifax man survived the crash, P / O James "Jim" Moffat RCAF.
The killed crew members rest in Hotton's CWG cemetery, except for F / O John Morrison DFC who was given a final resting place in Arlon.
All crew members of the Lancaster III ND767 perished and are also buried in the CWG cemetery of Hotton.
There is a walking route of about 5 km that goes from the monument to the crash site.
