Memorial "Trains to Life - Trains to Death"

Since the Kristallnacht in November 1938, there has been a real hunt for the Jews. Many Jewish children were also not spared and were bullied and deported. Negotiations between the Nazis and the British have resulted in more than 10,000 Jewish children being allowed to leave for England and be accepted as refugees. These so-called Kindertransports took place from different places, the first from Berlin and further from Vienna, Prague and later also from Gdansk in Poland. They were transported by train to Hoek van Holland where a boat was ready for the crossing to Harwich. Visual artist Frank Meisler has made a few images as a reminder of these transports. Frank Meisler himself experienced one of these transports as a child.

There are statues in Gdansk (The Departure), Berlin (Trains to Life, Trains to Death), Liverpool (The Arrival), Hoek van Holland (Channel crossing to life).
