This former camp complex was built in 1939 as Stalag 331 (later Stalag 1C Heydekrug and eventually Stalag Luft VI Heydekrug). From 1945 the camp was under the command of the Soviet authorities and was renamed prisoner of war camp No. 184, but in the meantime it was also used as a GULAG camp. The POW camp was closed in 1948, while the GULAG camp was not terminated until 1955.
Today, the camp complex in Macikai consists of the camp-site, a solitary cell, the prisoner cemetery, a bath, and possibly barracks.
