Information Sign The Death Thread Is Alive

The text on the sign is:

"The death thread is alive" is a memorial in the landscape in the form of a crocus ribbon between the North Sea and Vaals.
During the First World War, the German occupiers placed an electric barrier along the entire Belgian-Dutch border under a voltage of 2000 volts. As a result, spies, Belgian war volunteers, German deserters and smugglers were stopped. About 1,000 victims were killed by the 'Death Thread'.

In 2018, schoolchildren and residents planted white crocuses here along the border. Every spring, the crocuses make the former path of the Death Thread visible again.

At this point there are also a few paving stones that remind of the death thread.
