Memorial RAF Winthorpe 1661 HCU

This memorial commemorates the airmen of RAF Winthorpe 1661 HCU who gave their lives or served in World War II. The memorial contains a propeller hub of a MK 111 Short Stirling, EF186 from No. 1661 HCU, which was then based at RAF Winthorpe. The aircraft crashed out of control at Breeder Hills near Grantham on 4 December 1944 with loss of all nine crew.
