Remains Railway Bridge Deventer

After the invasion of the Germans on May 10, 1940, the Dutch engineers blew up the railway bridge, which had been built in 1886, to slow the advance of the German troops.
After the Liberation, the Royal Engineers built a new semi-permanent bailey bridge with three main spans for rail traffic. This bridge, which was named Katherine Millerspoor Bridge after the daughter of Lieutenant Colonel W.S. Miller, who was in charge of construction, was single-track.
The emergency bridge was in service until 1982. On May 7, 1982, the new railway bridge, with a bicycle path and a footpath, was festively opened by Prince Bernhard. After that, the Bailey bridge was demolished.
