At the entrance of the park on Via Cardinale Altieri is a monument commemorating the soldiers of the Piacenza division, who fell in the defense of Albano Laziale against German superior forces on September 9, 1943. The 18th century Villa Doria-Pamphili, where the detachment was staying at the time was destroyed by the Allied bombing in February 1944. The remains of the villa were removed in 1951, after which the accompanying garden became a public park. The monument was inaugurated in November 1946.
