War Memorial Glehn

On the village square opposite the old school was the old war memorial Glehn; it came from the Cologne sculptor Wilhelm Barutzky and was probably installed in 1921. The monument, a stone block made of Ettringen tuff, had the patron saint of the parish in its upper corner at the corners: St. Apostle Andrew, St. Sebastian and the pious lane. On the front a dedication and the names of the fallen soldiers of the First World War. The year numbers 1914 - 1918 formed the bottom line.
On the back of the monument the Redeemer on the cross, surrounded by a halo, with a warrior on either side. A ball was used to crown the monument, with an iron cross on it.
When the village square was redesigned in 1964, not only did the school stand in the way, but the old monument no longer fit in the room and was demolished. As a replacement, a sloping quarry wall was built and three metal plates attached with the names of those who died in both World Wars. On the left plate a dedication above and below, on the right plate another dedication above and below. The monument was under construction in 1966.
