Hooker Point was one of the island's American defenses during the Japanese invasion of Corregidor in 1942. From this point Pfc Hays fired with his .30-caliber machine gun at the approaching Japanese landing craft, followed by American fire all along the beach. The American defenders of Hooker Point, who had managed to defeat the Japanese 2nd Battalion, were the last Marines to surrender.
Hooker Point was one of the last pockets of resistance during the recapture of Corregidor in February 1945.
