Memorial Lancaster MK I LL812

This memorial commemorates the seven crew members of the Lancaster MK I bomber that crashed in Oostelbeers on June 13, 1944. All crew members died.

The text on the memorial reads:

"On the 12th June 1944, 622 Squadron (RAF Bomber Command) the Lancaster MK I bomber, LL812, GI-Z, piloted by F/O W.R. Rattle, took off for a bombing raid on a oil refinery near Gelsenkirchen. In the early morning of 13th June 1944 the Lancaster was intercepted and attacked by a German Nightfighter over Oirschot. The Lancaster was severly hit, caught on fire and crashed not far from this spot, Seven young airmen lost their lives.
