Corregidor - Battery Monja

Battery Monja was armed with two 155 mm GPF guns on Panama mounts. It was manned by G Battery (92nd Coast Artillery) under command of Lt. Emil Ulanowicz. It was credited with sinking a Japanese barge.

One of two guns were destroyed on 28 April 1942, killing two of its gunners. The men from Battery Monja continued to fight against the Japanese as guerrillas until 18 July 1942. Only 6 men, including Lt. Obourn, survived their capture.

In 1945, the battery was a Japanese stronghold during the American recapture of Corregidor. 2nd Battalion "D" Company attacked the battery on 21st February 1945, followed by an attack by "E" Company on 23rd February 1945. The next day "D" Company attacked again.
