Belgian War Grave Offagne

The municipal cemetery contains the grave of Victor Marbehant:
" In memory of
Victor MARBEHANT
Born in Offagne on June 23, 1893.
Soldier of the 10th Reg. de Ligne
Died in the field of honor
at Hoogstaede on May 26, 1917.
Reburied in Offagne on September 3, 1921 "

Victor Marbehant joined the army in 1913 and spent 33 months and 26 days at the front. His family never received any news from him during that period.
Since August 1914 he fought as a 2nd class soldier in the 10th line regiment.
On May 26, 1917, he was badly wounded on the front line between Ypres and Diksmuide as a result of a fatal shrapnel wound. He died in the field hospital in Hoogstade.
He was buried in the military cemetery of Westvleteren, in 1921 he was reburied in the municipal cemetery of Offagne.

Below the medallion is a red poppy for the 100th anniversary of his death:
"1917 - 2017"
