The war of 14-18 lives on in the collective memory. "Poor little Berlare" played an important role through the courageous resistance of soldiers and civilians.
In order to remember the story permanently, the Berlare culture service, together with local historians, developed a cycle route on the occasion of "100 years of the Great War".
The cycle route is 40 km long and runs through the municipalities: Uitbergen, Overmere, Donk, Berlare and Zele. It starts in the Veerstraat in Uitbergen at the former bridge house on the Scheldt and ends at the museum of the Donkmeer.
Information boards were placed at 30 important locations with a historical explanation on the left and a photo on the right. Below that the path to follow to the next information board.
