Belgian War Grave Bièvre

The old municipal cemetery of Bièvre contains the grave of a resistance fighter from the Second World War.

Albert LEROY
Fallen for the fatherland
1921-1944 "

Albert LEROY executed by the enemy on 8/24/1944
at the age of 23 "

Leroy worked as a postman in Orchimont.
He was a volunteer, maquisard of the 3rd part of the so-called "Semois" maquis installed at Bellin Wood in Houdremont.
During an attack on the "Vulture Camp" in Houdremont, he was arrested by the Germans on 23 August 1944. The next day he was to lead them to the camp of the maquis Prisme, but he ambushed the Germans.
The next day he was shot in Hautes-Rivières when the German troops withdrew.

The widow of another victim had the Flâchis chapel built in Orchimont in memory. A plaque on the right wall of the chapel commemorates the 20 members of the resistance of Group D who died on the cemetery of the Basse-Semois maquis.
Albert Leroy is also on the stèle of Houdremont and on the monument of the resistance of Berthaucourt in Charleville-Mézières.
