Belgian War Graves Aubel

The Aubel municipal cemetery contains graves of Belgian soldiers from the First and Second World War. The cemetery also contains graves of veterans of both World Wars.

One of the soldiers buried here is Mathieu NYSSEN, age 20, soldier with the Regiment Fortifiée de Liège, RFL, the garrison of Fort Aubin-Neufchâteau. He was killed in a German attack on May 11th, 1940 at bunker MN 11 at Saint-Jean-Sart. At this attack soldier Nyssen who had been holding post in the bunker's turret, was killed.

The monument in the center of the cemetery contains the remains of 2 soldiers killed during the 1st World War, from Aubel, both killed on September 28th, 1918.

COLLINGS Lambert, age 22, guard in the 7th artillery regiment, killed by shrapnel in the head on September 28th, 1918 at Klerken (Houthulst) West Flanders.

PINET Joseph, age 23, corporal in the 4th line regiment, killed by shrapnel in the head on September 28th, 1918 at Klerken (Houthulst) West Flanders.
