Liberation Route Marker 625

LIBERATION ROUTE MARKER 625

Heavy artillery and heavy defense

The Liberation Route follows the path taken by the Allies during the liberation of Europe. The route starts at Normandy and runs via Nijmegen and Arnhem towards Berlin.

This German coastal battery was built during World War II to protect the German port city of Emden against Allied aerial bombardments. The main armament of the battery consisted of 12.8 cm Flak (the largest caliber anti-aircraft gun on Dutch soil during the German occupation).
