Above Breitenbenden in the forest behind the cemetery, a 6.5 m high monument was erected in 1924 for the victims of the First World War. The monument was built of boulders from the area as a kind of rock replica with a gable-shaped basaltic lava cover. Two palm branches on the cover. An octagonal block (millstone?) made of basalt lava with a carved iron cross and the inscription "1914 - 1918" is embedded in the front.
In the lower part of the rock a relief plate made of Odenwald stone depicting a dying warrior lying between two oaks being comforted by an angel; on the right the sun rising in the east.
The inauguration took place on September 14, 1924. Between 1933 and 1938, a granite slab with the names of the fallen in the First World War was placed at the foot of the monument.
After the Second World War, the monument was expanded by placing three stone crosses on the side of the monument and replacing the granite slab with the names of those who died in both world wars.
