Belgian War Graves Staden

To the left of the entrance of the cemetery in Staden are ten memorial stones for the fallen inhabitants of Staden of the First and Second World War who were buried here. Their graves are scattered throughout the cemetery.

There are also the graves of executed civilians
On 21 October 1914, the Germans capture seventeen inhabitants of Staden. After a mock trial, they all receive the death penalty, which is immediately commuted. The seventeen men were executed against a wall at the beginning of the current Handzamestraat and buried on the spot. In 1924 the bodies are transferred to the cemetery. Their graves are still there.
