Crashlocation B-17G

On March 3, 1944, around 11.50 am, an American bomber type B-17G Flying Fortress crashed. This happened near Baflo in Lutke Saaxum.
The plane was shot over Borkum. The ten crew members were captured by the German occupier after they had rescued themselves from the plane by parachute.
The wreckage of the plane was taken to the train station in Baflo and transported from there in three wagons. Three military motorcyclists supervised.
In 1962 several sharp machine gun cartridges were found at the crash site.
