Ehrenmal Bad Bentheim Rifle Association Waldseite

"We dedicate a silent memory of our comrades who fell and went missing in the two world wars"

Under this motto, on behalf of the riflemen's association Waldseite-Hagelshoek Ev 1898, its fallen inhabitants are commemorated with a monument or "Ehrenmal".

In 1926, the erection of a memorial to the victims of the First World War was tackled. The system was ready at the beginning of 1927. The inauguration took place on February 27, 1927. Mr Albert Aarnink, once a primary school teacher in Waldseite, gave the speech. In 1954 a second column was added to the monument to commemorate the comrades who fell and went missing during the Second World War. The inauguration took place on the day of national mourning by the second chairman of the Grafschafter Schützenbund, Mr. Robert Fähmel from Quendorf. In 1983 the monument was moved a few meters and provided with a surrounding wall with a hand-forged chain. On the day of national mourning, the facility was handed over to its intended use in a ceremony. When the memorial was last redesigned in the spring of 1990, a bronze plaque was attached with the names of fellow gunmen who were killed and missing in both World Wars.
