Every year on Saint Michael's Day (29 September) in the village of Lascheid a celebration takes place in honor of the victims of the two world wars at the war memorial.
The initiator for this monument was Nikolaus Zeyen. During the general mobilization for the First World War in 1913, he was called to the assembly point Diedenhoven. There he swore that when he returned safely from the war, he would erect a cross in honor of Christ. Zeyen returned safe and sound and immediately had a memorial of his own design made in Malmedy. On St. Michael's Day 1920, the monument was solemnly inaugurated by pastor Heinrich Cordewener (1878-1957) amid massive interest from the villagers.
After the Second World War, a memorial plaque for the fallen and civilian victims of the village was donated by the inhabitants. Also at the initiative of the village population, the old monument was demolished in April 1983 and replaced by this new monument made of local rubble stone.
