Marten Lijnema

born March 16, 1910 in Kantens
Died May 16, 1944 in the dune area near Overveen

Lived in Kantens and was a member of the Ordedienst, an illegal organization that
actively resisted the Germans. He accommodates people in hiding and arranges forged identity cards. In 1943 Lijnema gives shelter in his house to a runaway member of the Nationalsozialisticher Kraftfahrkorps ( NSSK ). He confiscated the man's weapon and gave it to the resistance. In the night of January 31 to February 1, 1944, Lijnema was arrested, the Germans knew that he had supplied a weapon to resistance fighters. He was executed on May 16, 1944 in the dunes of Overveen. At the age of 34 years old.
