Memorial American Landing 1917

This memorial ("Monument du soldat américain" in French) commemorates the American landing on French soil in 1917.

Inaugurated in 1926, the American Monument, also nicknamed the Sammy or even the "Soldier of Liberty", commemorates the arrival of American troops in Saint-Nazaire, from 1917. Destroyed by the German occupier in 1941, the monument was rebuilt identically in 1989.
