Memorial Cross Südlohn

On the Ottenstapler Weg, the memorial cross is located about 50 meters north of the bridge over the small stream "Schlinge".

The cross is located near the crash site of a night fighter Messerschmidt BF 110. The plane carrying the fallen radio operator Albrecht Risop has not been recovered.
To this day, it is about two meters deep in the earth.

The initiative to bury the fallen soldiers in a dignified grave has so far failed. The permits for this from the Federal Agency for Real Estate to which the wreck belongs, the Volksbund Deutscher Kriegsgräberfürsorge and the Lower Water Board were available. However, the archaeologists of the Westfalen Lippe regional office were against a rescue.
The pilot Wilhelm Johnen was able to save himself with the parachute and survived injured.
