Here in Waalwijk is a memorial stone for:
CORNELIS JACOBUS (COR) BANK, died on October 25, 1943 at sea, near Brest (FRA)
This Memorial Stone is located here for a war pilot. In 1940 Cor fled from Vlissingen via Cherbourg to England, where he continued his training as a pilot. On December 30, 1941 he receives his "wings" and is assigned to the 320 squadron. On October 25, 1943, six crews are ordered to attack an airfield near Brest. Bank's plane is hit by a grenade, in which Bank himself is wounded. His body disappears into the sea.
