In 1941 the Germans built an artillery repair workshop for the German Navy at the Kimswerderweg in Harlingen. This so-called MAZA building, Marine Artillerie Zeugambt, is designed in the "Heimatstil", a rural architectural style. This architectural style refers to traditional farm building in Germany. The German occupier applied this style to camouflage military complexes from the air.
An ammunition depot also belonged to the MAZA complex.
After the war, the building was used for various business purposes. The building takes the name Kokosfabriek from the production of coconut mats. Laying hens have been housed in the building since 1968.
Since 2014, this renovated complex offers 14 residential locations with support to people who can live independently in their homes.
