War Memorial Mariekerke

At the Ascension Church of Our Lady in Mariekerke is a monument to the fallen of the First World War. It was inaugurated on Sunday, May 22, 1921.
It is a statue of a standing lion with top left: "Mariekerke 1914-1918".
In addition to the names of the Mariekerk dead and civilian victims, the Belgian soldiers who died on the spot are also mentioned.

On the pedestal is the text:
"Homage to the saviors of the fatherland.
Killed in action of the congregation:
PAUWELS A.L.
MAES F.A.
VAN DE MOORTEL F.P.
VAN DEN EEDE C.
VERGAUWEN P.A."
