Memorial De Barakke Waregem

As part of the 100th anniversary of the First World War, a memorial monument was inaugurated on 10 November 2014 at every Waregem cemetery.

At the top: "Waregem De Barakke Cemetery
1914-1918 1940-1945
Never war again"
Below are the names of the deceased buried on "De Barakke" who played a particular role in the First and/or Second World War, with an indication of the year of birth and death.

The last memorial plaque reads at the bottom:
"At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them.",
from "For the Fallen" by Robert Laurence Binyon, 1914"

The lists were drawn up by the registry office, based on information from the funeral records, the city archives, the patriotic associations, the local history circle and the next of kin.
This eventually resulted in a list of more than 1800 names of fallen, veterans, civilian victims, resistance fighters, civilian workers, deportees and refusers.
