Romanian War Cemetery Roșia

On this cemetery lay the remains of 957 soldiers of the 48th infantry regiment ‘Buzău’
There are 2 mass graves, one with 473 unknown soldiers and one with 478 unknown soldiers as well as 6 individual graves of officers of which only one is known.

The 48th Infantry Regiment ‘Buzău’ was part of the Romanian 13th Infantry Division and was tasked at the beginning of September to conquer the heights on the North east side of Sibiu.
During a night attack that took place on September 9th, 1916 at Rotemberg hill these soldiers have been killed.
In the end the 48th infantry regiment lost during the fighting in the area around Sibiu 2853 soldiers out of a total of 3668.
