The farm in the distance belonged to the owner of the meadow where the massacre took place.
On the morning of 28 May 1940, his two daughters came to milk the cows and soon found themselves in the thick of the fighting. One of them fled from the barn terrified, to return to the farm. In the afternoon, their father M. MERCIER came to look for his second daughter by crawling along the ditches shortly before the fighting ended and the prisoners captured at Wormhout were brought here to be executed.
