Landing site Donald O. Mills Eerde

At this location, a sign recalls the landing site of Second Lieutenant Mills. He was a crew member of B17 "Flying Fortress" 42-3439 MZ-V. The aircraft belonged to the 96th Bomber Group, 413 Bomber Squadron.

After a bombing flight over Düren, the crew had to leave the aircraft that had mechanical problems and had been shelled. Five crew members succeeded, the other occupants died in the crash of the plane. Of the five survivors, only Donald O. Mills was not captured. He fled to Belgium and eventually managed to return to his unit via Gibraltar.
