Remembrance Cross and Peace Tree Bunsbeek

On this place about 30 Belgian soldiers were buried together in a mass grave under a lime tree after the Battle of 18 August 1914. At the end of 1916 they were reburied in war cemeteries in Sint-Margriete-Houtem, Tienen and Grimde.
Later the lime tree felled by a storm, and the memorial cross also disappeared.
On 11 November 2013, a new lime tree, also known as the 'peace tree', was planted on this site. On 17 August 2014, 100 years later, a memorial cross was placed again.
