Crash Site RAF Bomber Lancaster NN775 514 Sqn

At this location a British RAF Lancaster bomber crashed due to a defect on 5 March 1945.
The seven crew members pilot Holman Kerr, sergeant William Marsden, navigator Sidney Smith, Sergeant Frank Clarke, Sergeant Alan Olsen (Australia), Sergeant Christopher Hogg and Sergeant Herbert Thomas were killed in the crash. They were all buried in the military cemetery in Heverlee and posthumously received the war decorations 'War Medal' and 'Star'.
This aircraft flew from England with 169 other bombers to Gelsenkirchen in Germany for an attack on a petrol refinery.
