On January 8, 1943 at 7:23 PM, a Lancaster crashed here. The Lancaster was part of 9 Sqdn. During a dogfight, the plane exploded in mid-air. The crew perished.
A monument was erected on this site in 2022 in memory of the crew.

Navigator Munro McKenzie, age 19
Navigator William Thomas McLennan, age 31
Gunner Patrick George Brogan, 19 years old
