Belgian War Graves Assent

The old churchyard in Assent contains the grave of a military victim of the Second World War. It concerns BECKERS Jospeh, Munsterbilzen 10 May 1940.
There is the grave of GEMOETS Hilaire, Commander of the Belgian Partisans; He was executed by the Germans in Diest on 3 September 1944. A memorial was erected on the Papenvest in Diest at the place where he was executed.
There is the grave of VALGAERTS Paul, soldier V.V.E. 10th Wing at Kleine-Brogel, victim of the plane crash at Sake-Masisi (Congo) on 19 July 1960.
41 soldiers were killed in that crash, including 36 members of the VVE 10th Wing Air Force and the five crew members of the C-119 Flying Boxcar.
