Gerard lives in Rotterdam, after the bombing of May 14, 1940, the family left the city and settled in Breda on the Balfortstraat and started a shoe and fabric store there. He and his family will live at 73 Julianalaan. In June 1942 he is working in his front garden, because it is warm, he takes off his jacket (with Star of David). A neighbor sees this and reports it to the made. It is locked and locked in Breda's house. His husbands Regina van de Rho-Druijf goes into hiding with the children. Via camp Haaren and camp Amersfoort, Van de Rhoer eventually ends up in the Mauthausen concentration camp, where he dies at the age of 58. On May 19, 2022, the stumbling stone will be laid in the presence of grandson and namesake Gerard van de Rhoer.

This was the very first stolperstein in Breda.
