Defense Bunker VM1 ter

This is bunker VM 1 ter from the sector Vesdre-Manaihant and belongs to the 1st defense line of La Position Fortifiée de Liège.

This bunker is the 2nd bunker in this sector as it is a secondary bunker of bunker VM 1. The bunker is still accessible but is contaminated inside. The gun opening has been bricked up. The bunker is located on a strategically high position along the N61 towards Pepinster.

Since a bunker is located on a military plot, this was indicated by so-called “DN” posts at the corners of the plot. DN stands for Defense National, indicating that it was a military plot. The plot was therefore fenced off with barbed wire, some of which is still present. Photo 5 shows DN post 4 which has become loose due to shifting of the ground.

After the war, when the bunkers lost their strategic value for the defense of Belgium, all the metal (doors, hatches, etc.) was sold as scrap metal.
