Located on the heights of Cannectancourt, in the massif known as "Little Switzerland", near the Carmoye farm, the underground tunnels of the Botte quarry are a unique place in Picardy. This quarry is one of the most emblematic testimony of the military development of our region and the "underground" war.
The Botte quarry is a limestone mine prior to the First World War. Forming a bowl easy to defend, German fighters settled there from September 1914. They dig galleries, sometimes of several levels. These deep undergrounds housed the Kaiser troops until 1917. Sheltered from bombing, the network facilitates connections between the lines of defense and the cantonment.
