The house Stukken stood on this site. During the war, this house was a shelter for escaped Russian soldiers prisoners of war. During a raid on the night of 29 to 30 June 1944, Barthelomeus Stukken was killed in the kitchen of the house was cowardly shot to death by Flemish collaborators, because he did not want to betray his escaped father.
Behind the memorial are the remnants of the destroyed house.
