Memorial Resistance Fighter Albert van den Berg

Albert van den Berg veteran in the First World War and resistance member in the Second World War. Known for helping hundreds of Jewish children escape during the German occupation. He was also an intelligence agent of the "Clarence" network. On April 28, 1943, he was arrested and served 5 months in prison. Then he was arrested again by the Gestapo on September 24, 1943 and sent to the citadel of Huy and via Vught and Sachsenhausen he finally ended up in Oranienburg. In October 1944 he fell ill and was admitted to the hospital in Hamburg. After that, he was never heard from again. In 1995 he was awarded the title 'Righteous Among the Nations' by the Yad Vashem Institute.
