On 26 August 1914, the houses of Rulles were set on fire by the German troops. On the same day, all men over 14 years of age were required to go to the village center. A total of 170 men are gathered, ready to be executed. Fortunately, a German cavalryman gave the order not to kill them. The men were locked up in the church and would spend 14 nights there.
