This information sign recalls the history of the Jewish community in Hengelo. A Jewish cemetery was established at this location in 1789. After the Second World War, the Jewish community in Hengelo had become too small to continue independently and was added to that in Zutphen. In 1965 the area of the cemetery became a water catchment area. The graves were then moved to Zutphen.
